Print Productively While Controlling Costs

Even in a time when business leaders are highly motivated to reduce waste, many companies still spend far too much on device usage and output. Too many machines sit idle, color is used irresponsibly, and too many pages are printed, then wasted unnecessarily. uniFLOW Output Manager enables your business to provide access to high-quality output capabilities while offering intelligent controls that can save money and improve operational performance.

uniFLOW is a highly scalable, modular platform perfect for small businesses and global enterprises alike. Companies can purchase only the modules they need and adjust their configuration as they grow or change.

Make Your Employees More Productive

Maximize device uptime and cost efficiency with intelligent job routing. Automatically reroute high-volume or color print jobs from desktop printers to multifunction imageRUNNER devices with lower costs per page, or divert print jobs to available devices if a user's first choice is busy.

Manage and Reduce Costs

uniFLOW helps the finance department track and assess the organizations current printing costs. For Canon MFPs, copy, fax and scan usage can also be recorded along with any printing activity.  Each printer can be assigned multiple price structures, allowing the tracking of charges to the user as well as the internal printing costs.
Budgets can be set to stop users printing more than they are entitled to. Managers’ authorization can be required before printing large or expensive jobs.
Multi-level cost codes can be assigned to print and copy jobs making sure the correct budget is charged for the work.

Improve Document Security

uniFLOW enables you to increase security measures for device activity across your organization. Jobs can be held at the uniFLOW server until a user provides identification at the device, preventing unauthorized persons from retrieving a confidential document. uniFLOW integrates easily with many identification systems including magnetic card readers, contactless card readers, and keyboard entry. For example, the easy-to-use MiCard enables users to identify themselves by waving their cards near a reader, while uniFLOW MEAP also allows users to access and print documents securely from Canon imageRUNNER devices.

Reduce IT Administrator Burden uniFLOW helps in reducing IT administrator burden by :

  1. 1. Easing task to reduce access to MFP (via Access Management System Integration)
  2. 2. Integration with back-end systems (by providing a self-learning card authentication system)
  3. 3. Providing custom workflows (new Workflow engine)
  4. 4. Enhancing document security (via integration with imageWARE Secure Audit Manager Express)
  5. 5. Providing support for different types of printers or MFPs (via support for Canon MEAP, imageRUNNER 2500 integration, embedded application for secure printing on 3rd party devices and microMIND)

Statistics / Reporting

uniFLOW provided organizations with key document output information concerning their network and locally connected printers, allowing administrators to better understand the usage levels and costs associated with printed and copied output. When integrated with identification systems such as HID Prox cards, PIN Code or username/password and the MEAP platform, the Statistics module also enables allocation of print and copy jobs to cost centers, student accounts, and project codes for charging and billing.

Secure Printing

uniFLOW provides users with mechanisms to control the output of sensitive documents. It holds print jobs at the server and only permits them to be retrieved by someone using an appropriate identification method. Universal Secure Printing also allows documents to be sent and then printed at the most appropriate device. Organizations can integrate many different identification systems with uniFLOW including, magnetic card readers, contactless card readers, and keyboard entry.

Rule Based Routing

uniFLOW allows interactive routing of print jobs to the most cost effective device or the routing of print jobs to alternative devices if a printer is not available. Users are made aware about the cost of the print job prior to printing and if they choose to print to the alternate printer which is less expensive, these savings are recorded in the uniFLOW database and a cost savings report is available.

Internet Gateway

The Internet Gateway Module users with the ability to recharge printing/copying budgets via PayPal and also submit secure prints jobs via the Internet.

Remote Printer Server

The Remote Print Server module allows administrators to account for printing in remote locations, providing complete control across all output devices wherever they are. This allows organizations to send print-related files only over local networks while sending accounting information back to a central database to enable a company-wide understanding of output activity.

uniFLOW Embedded Software

MEAP Technology

MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) is an application platform incorporated into Canon's network digital MFPs. It enables users to perform copying and other MFP functions as applications customized to their needs and office.

The MEAP architecture is an embedded platform for developing software that customizes and automates any MEAP enabled device. The uniFLOW MEAP Applets use this technology to provide you with the possibility to tailor the user interface of the MFP to your specific workflow processes. You will have considerable flexibility and choice as how to integrate the solution into the customer's business.

General Architecture

The MEAP Applets of uniFLOW are applications installed on the MFP. They are used to display information from the uniFLOW Server to the end users on the control panel of the Canon imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE device.

uniFLOW Applets (for MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER & imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices)

  •  • The uniFLOW Login Manager, which enables controlled access (PIN Code, username/password, Prox card etc) to MEAP enabled Multi Functional Printers (MFPs ).
  •  • The MomClient, designed for secure print, public printing and scanning.

uniFLOW Login Device License for CMFP :

The Canon compact multifunctional printers (CMFP) are smaller cost effective print devices not equipped with a MEAP. For that reason, MEAP based applets, like the uniFLOW Login Manager or the MomClient, will not run on CMFP devices. That renders the usual secure printing functionality impossible. To solve this problem, and to make secure document release available on these devices, Canon and NT-ware have developed a uniFLOW integration that is added to the CMFPs firmware. In addition, an interface was created within uniFLOW to enable communication between the CMFP and uniFLOW.

These enhancements provide a GUI that works very much like the MEAP and MomClient. It allows the user to establish a connection from the device to uniFLOW and release their documents in a secure way, without the need of MEAP applets.

imageRUNNER 2500 series and Color imageRUNNER C1030 are examples of CMFP devices with uniFLOW capability built-into the firmware

3rd Party Embedded Application

In addition to providing embedded application on Canon devices, NT-ware had developed embedded application for 3rd party devices to support copy tracking, secure printing and card authentication natively.

NT-ware Hardware

In addition to having integration with Canon MFPs using the embedded MEAP platform, NT-ware provides several hardware solutions to support card authentication and secure printing on 3rd party devices, single function printers or even Canon Single Function Printers (Canon LBP)

MiCard v2: MiCard v2 are card readers that support popular badge systems such as HID Prox, Legic/MiFare, Magnetic and certain iCLASS frequencies.

microMIND: microMIND is a cost effective hardware solution that supports card authentication and simple secure job release on Single Function Printers (SFP) and 3rd party devices.

Industries

General Office

Many companies seek solutions for device management, secure output, color printing, and the ability to bill print costs to internal departments or outside clients. uniFLOW Output Manger can help you analyze and control this activity. You'll know who's printing, what they are printing, at what quantities, and what costs you can expect.

Professional Services Firms

Law firms, environmental consultants, ad agencies, and other consultants often charge their clients for printing, copying, and other device usage. With uniFLOW Output Manager, businesses can quickly and accurately charge expenses to client and project codes. Create reports on these costs on the fly, or generate them automatically to ensure timely invoicing.

Corporate Reprographics Departments (CRD)

In professional print environments, uniFLOW can flexibly enhance part or all of your production workflows from job submission to document finishing. To maximize speed and accuracy, customers can submit orders through a streamlined, easy-to-follow job submission menu that includes an online system that enables customers and printers to specify job details and track progress.

You can then streamline output and reduce costs in a number of ways. Comprehensive make-ready tools speed job production, while load balancing maximizes productivity. You can also divide mixed-color and black-and-white print jobs between the most efficient machines and then combine them later. Best of all, you can oversee all output-related activity with a dashboard for print job management.

Educational Institutions

Schools, libraries, and other institutions often provide self-service access to pay-for-print and copy services. With uniFLOW, they can easily set up accounts linked to student ID cards. Students then have access to secure, high-quality output when needed, while schools can accurately recover costs.
